stroke.03 urban art fair

the urban art fair stroke (stroke.01 and stroke.02) is one unique and the largest urban art fair of the world, usually set in Munich. but this year the makers  have decided to bring it to a city where urban art is part of daily life and environment, Berlin. Edition stroke.03 will take place all over the city with murals, a lounge filled up with art, parties, live paintings, digital art and naturally a lot of different urban art in station-berlin.

the concept of stroke.03 combines different artflows, like ‘low brow’, ‘street art’, ‘graffiti’, ‘illustration’, ‘graphic design’ and ‘comic art’.
we think it’s interesting to observe the development of taking these artflows in galleries or like here present them in large art fairs. with a critical view on these developments in mind, we will give you up-to-date reports when this fair starts – containing observations, photo’s and interviews. stroke.03 has a point the presentation will give urban art a new context, but in their description about urban art they note that urban art is finally made public and there we have a slightly huge difference of opinion. so for further information click here to check out the stroke.03 urban art fair website and later on surf to our blog to read about our stroke observations.

welcome – willkommen – welkom – bienvenue – bienvenida – karibu sana – ترحيب – 歡迎 – רצוי

dear friends of anything street art,

public spaces in cities burst with urban icons, visual rebellions and pieces of art reflected in stencils, grafitti, stickers, pastings and installations coming in all shapes and colors. we strongly believe in the significance of these visual urban interventions as an important strategy in rethinking and politicizing the surface of the city, questioning the role of public space, adressing processes of urban transformation such as gentrification, privatization and surveillance and just making the world a little more aesthetic.

this blog is meant to contribute to making the data infrastructure on the topic more accessible. our first and most important concern is to document and map as much as possible of the contemporary street art of our hometown berlin on flickr as well as share travel snapshots of pieces from all over the world.

see www.flickr.com/photos/wallsoffame.

as the flickr archive is progressing, we will start blogging about the project, scientific accounts on street and urban art, pieces of information on upcoming events and interviews with local street artists as well as provide you with links, book  and film reviews and a publication catalogue.

so far, enjoy the site!
